Monitor Lizard

Unlike the other islands of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Kosrae does not have grocery stores and regular shipments of food. A ship will come in once a month and you have to get to the docks early if you want to get any food. Off the ship, they will sell items in bulk and you buy as much as you can. Unfortunately, the little shops, large churches and little hotels get most of the supplies. Locals have learned to live off the land and are healthier as a result. (I've never seen so many people eat SPAM and rice as they do on Guam and other islands.) So they fish off their gorgeous coastline, eat local breadfruit, coconut and taro and creatively grow their own veggies in bags since the soil is too sandy. Sometimes though, dinner just walks out into the street. This monitor lizard (approx 4 ft long) got hit by a car just outside the KH. When we drove by a few minutes later, it was gone. Good Eats!
